Join us for the Coolidge Debate League’s second tournament of the 2018-19 season!
Date/Time: Saturday, November 10th from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM
Location: Thales Academy Apex (1300 N Salem St, Apex, NC 27502)
Eligibility: All students grade 6 through 12, all schools
Registration: Please register by November 2, 2018
Attire: Business Professional
The resolution for this debate and the debate brief prepared by the Coolidge Foundation will be posted here on Friday, October 5th.
Students will begin the day with a seminar on the debate topic delivered by a local policy expert. Then they will debate in teams of two in multiple rounds throughout the day, getting a chance to argue both sides of the resolution. Students are welcome to find a debate partner ahead of time, or register as a “single” (in which case we will pair the student with another student on the morning of the tournament).
All students grades 6 to 12 from any school are eligible to compete. The tournament will have separate high school and middle school brackets. Both experienced and inexperienced debaters are encouraged to register.
Students should register through the form at the bottom of this page by November 2, 2018. Note to students: to make this the best experience for everyone, please plan to be there for the full day (students who arrive after the first round has begun will not be allowed to participate).
The event is free and lunch will be provided to all students and judges.
Information for Judges
We need volunteer judges for our debate tournaments! We welcome citizen judges of all types, including teachers, coaches, parents, and other members of the community. Experience with debating or judging is not necessary, as we will hold a brief judge training session on the morning of the tournament. To volunteer as a judge, register here.
If you have any questions about the tournament or League, please contact Jared Rhoads by email ([email protected]).
