Coolidge and the American Project

The year 2023 marks the centennial of Coolidge’s homestead inauguration. President Coolidge exemplified civic virtues we admire today: thrift, bipartisanship, civility, and an abiding commitment to the Constitution and the Framers. To honor the centennial, the Coolidge Foundation will cohost a national conference with the Library of Congress to celebrate and reflect upon the life and legacy of Calvin Coolidge. Scholars, business leaders, policymakers, and public servants will reflect on Coolidge’s life and legacy and his vital relevance for today.

Speakers will examine the American philosophies, laws, rhetoric, faith traditions and rural life that shaped Coolidge. Panelists will also reflect on how two decades in state politics fostered in Coolidge a deep appreciation of the principle and workability of federalism. Discussion of Coolidge’s presidency will highlight his commitment to making America friendlier to commerce through strict budgeting, tax reduction, and the encouragement of innovation.

Additionally, the conference will showcase the Coolidge Foundation’s new documentary film, Coolidge: Rediscovering an American President. Click here to learn more about the Centennial Conference.
