“You’re the top
You’re an Arrow collar
You’re the top,
You’re a Coolidge Dollar”
Join the trustees and friends of the Foundation at the Union League Club in New York City on May 5 to celebrate the birthday of the U.S. Mint’s new Coolidge Dollar. Our event features Wall Street wise man James Grant, who will eulogize and talk about the hopes for reviving a currency of the quality that prevailed in President Coolidge’s time.
Others have also praised the dollar, even in the 1930s. Early versions of the lyrics of Cole Porter’s “You’re the Top,” a song in Porter’s musical “Anything Goes,” features this line: “you’re the top, you’re a Coolidge Dollar.” You can hear the song here the Coolidge dollar mention is at the 2:10 mark). Come to our event; bring your stories, questions, and party hats.
