Context: Nine-year-old Calvin, Jr. writes to wish his grandfather a happy 73rd birthday.
Dear Grandfather,
I hope you will have a nice birthday. My birthday is near yours. It is the 13 of April. John is sick with the grippe and his letter may not reach you the same time as mine because he can’t write. John’s birthday is the 7 of September. Your birthday comes at a good time. I hope it will not rain. In a little while you will be planting your garden. Then I will help you hay and we will have a good time. Papa is in Boston I wonder what he is doing. Perhaps he is writing you now. It snowed a few flakes to-day. Have you any snow up in Plymouth? Most everybody has the grippe. We are going to give you some presents. You must not open them till your birthday. I hope you will get hundreds of presents.
With love
Calvin Coolidge
