Date: March 1, 1886
Context: Col. John asks his son for an update from school. He tells of the severe winter weather that Plymouth has been facing and of his recent trip into town. Col. John tells Calvin he will send kindling for Calvin’s fire. He also reminds him to keep track of his laundry.
My Dear Boy
How are you prospering at your new undertaking. We have had a very hard storm & much wind since last Friday. The stage went down Friday & did not return until Sunday night. I went to break the road to the city Friday & had to stay over at Henry [name unclear] until the next day the roads drifted back over the river. We are all well as usual. How do you make it without any kindling to start your fire? Will try & get some to you this week if I can. Save up your dirty clothes if you have a chance. Do what you can to help Miss Boynton and keep things in your room to suit Peek. Write me all the news and what you want I should bring down. If you do not want kindlings write so.
Your Father
