Letter to Calvin Coolidge to his Father

Date: July 27, 1925

Context: Every summer while Coolidge was president, he left Washington for a few months and set up a “Summer White House.” As for his reasoning, Coolidge said in a 1926 press conference, “I don’t go away from Washington for the purpose of avoiding the Washington climate so much as I do for the purpose of getting a change.”

My dear Father:-

The artist is still working on my picture. It is long and hard work. I shall not have another full length portrait done.

Grace seems well. The water is good for her. Dr. Shute wants to call on you again so I suppose he will arrange with Dr. Crane to call in a few days.

John goes to camp Aug. 1 which will soon be here. Then he has some studying to do.

Your son,

Calvin Coolidge
