Where will the institute be located? The Coolidge Presidential Debate and Policy Institute will take place at the President Calvin Coolidge Museum and Education Center at the President Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site in Plymouth Notch, Vermont. This historic site is one of the most well-preserved presidential birthplaces in the United States. It is located in the 19th century village in which President Calvin Coolidge was born. The historic site also includes the homestead where, at 2:47 AM on August 3, 1923, Calvin Coolidge took the oath of office to become the 30th President of the United States. Class sessions will be held in the state-of-the-art facilities in our Museum and Education Center. Students will be lodged at the Cortina Inn and Resort.

Who should apply? The Coolidge Debate Institute is a program for experienced debaters with at least a full year of debate experience, from rising high school freshmen through Class of 2018 high school graduates. The camp is particularly geared toward providing students with superior instruction in both the art of debate and the contentious economic and political issues students are often called upon to debate. Naturally, we also focus on teaching presidential history. World renowned experts provide a one-of-a-kind course in political economy and geo-politics. This kind of in-depth content training, coupled with traditional debate instruction, will help prepare any debater for future success.

What is the cost of the institute? Tuition is $1,700, with a deposit of $700 due upon admission. The full balance is due by June 1, 2017.

Is the deposit for tuition refundable? Unfortunately, no payments are refundable.

What is included in the cost of the institute? The cost includes tuition, housing, meals, and transportation during the institute. Transportation to the institute is not included in the tuition, nor are incidental purchases.

What should I bring? Students should bring a variety of clothing, including pants and a jacket – summer temperatures can vary widely. They should also expect to use a notebook, pens, and paper. We strongly recommend that students bring a laptop and a flash drive if they have access. Students may also wish to bring a power strip, extension cord, and/or Ethernet cord. A complete packing list will be provided to admitted students.
