Judge Janice Rogers Brown served on the United States Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit from 2005 until her retirement in 2017.
Born in the segregated South, Judge Brown attended college in California, majoring in economics before turning to the law. She served as an associate justice of the California Supreme Court, an associate justice of the California Court of Appeals, and as the legal affairs secretary to California governor Pete Wilson.
Judge Brown has served on the Board of Regents of Pepperdine University and the University of the Pacific. She is a 2019 recipient of the Bradley Prize.
Judge Brown earned her J.D. from the UniverÂsity of California, Los Angeles School of Law and received a Master of Laws in Judicial Process from the University of Virginia School of Law.
